Assessment

Written assessment (30% of the total mark):

  1. 1-hour quiz (vocabulary & notions) – 1st hour of last session

Oral assessment (70% of the total mark): a VIVA via Video (soutenance)!

Brief:

You will be working in groups of 3, on the following scenario:

One of you will first act as someone who has a physical problem (e.g.: backache when cycling). He/she will be precisely describing the pain he/she may feel and the discomfort of his/her position and situation, as he/she is seeking for help.
Then the whole team (including the member who acted as the person who suffers from the discomfort) are ergonomists who will try :

1. To assess why the pain occurs (as well as when, and where it comes from) (-> observation stage)
2. Explain/describe the problem, giving very precise details (such as measurements > see seminars 3-4-5, insisting on its bad cosnequences (-> assessment stage)
3. Work out on a solution to solve it and make recommendations (-> recommendation stage)

Each one of you will have to make these observations, assessment and recommendations.

This is fiction: it does not matter to me if the problem and the solution are unrealistic – this is an English class, I am not a physiotherapist…

EXTRA : Bonus, 2 marks – enjoy your grammar!

Training exercise: yes, you can improve your accent!

How about trying to repeat word for word what natives say? This will definitely help. Use the transcription tool to read as the person explains things all along… then it will be your turn to speak.
