Preparing for the interview… as the interviewee

1. Preparing for the typical questions

Tips for you to react to those questions… 

Please answer the following questions:

Q1: When an interviewer asks you to go through your CV for them, what is he/she really assessing?

-> They test your confidence, enthusiasm and passion.
-> You demonstrate the strength of your communication skills!
-> When they ask you about personal stuff…: focus on education, personal experience, the abilities you may have developed when travelling for instance i.e.: your adaptability, your versatility

Q2: What does the interviewer really ask when he/she asks about your strengths?

-> They assess how you see yourself, whether you have a positive image about yourself. Again, show your professional abilities and how you enjoy what you do.

Q3: Same about weaknesses?

-> Again: be positive!

-> Identify the areas where you are not that good, and think about you may improve

Q3: What does the trainer recommend to avoid when expressing weaknesses?

-> Pay attention not to sound negative!

Q4: What does the interviewer seek to assess when he/she asks about you will be in 5 years time?
-> They want to know how committed you will be towards the company
-> Show you have some ambition, want to climb the ladder, while you remain loyal to the company, hoping they will provide you with the opportunities you aspire to

Q5: What does the interviewer want to know when he/she asks about what you know about his/her company?

-> They check that you are genuinely interested in the company

Q6: What would the interviewer like to know when he/she asks “how well do you handle change?”?
-> They want to know if you can cope with change.

-> Anticipate and find examples to show you adapt, are versatile

Q7: What does the interviewer want to know when he/she asks you about how you cope with pressure?

->They check whether you easily panic and get stressed

-> Anticipate and show you manage, by prioritising, thinking ahead and then carrying on with it. You have organisational skills.

Q8: What is the reason behind the question “how do you make important decisions?”?
-> They check that you have the capability (ability) of thinking, assessing a situation, and potentially making critical decisions.

2. Preparing to show your ability to demonstrate how you cope with difficult situations

When we covered the interviewer side of the job interview, you were asked to think about a scenario exposing a difficult situation the interviewee would have to comment and solve out. Ideas of situations are proposed on your assessment page.
