  1. 1-hour quiz (vocabulary & notions) – 1st hour of last session (Seminar 10)

Oral assessment (70% of the total mark):  a VIVA via Video (soutenance)!

Brief:

You will be working in groups of 3, on the following scenario:

You have taken your class for a trip abroad. Part of this trip enables your pupils/students to attend school there. You and your foreign peers have decided to organise an orienteering race for all the youngsters, and here you are, counting the pupils/students as they are finishing the race. Blimey, one of them is missing! That’s Tom. Everybody starts looking for him. After walking a few miles, you find him: he is conscious but has badly fallen, you need to call an ambulance so that the paramedics come and drive him quickly to the hospital…

You will be the actors of this little play.

  1. First, you will be all be PE teachers, the play will start with you ALL briefing the youngsters about the race.
  2. Then, one of you will act as Tom. He will be describing the pain he may feel, and explaining how he fell.
  3. Then, one of you will be the PE teacher: he will be questioning Tom, then calling the ambulance and giving indications as to what happened.
  4. The last one of you will be the paramedic who needs to understand the situation, then assesses it and reassures the PE teacher before taking Tom to the hospital.
  5. The 3 of you recap the situation, as if you were journalists, summarising the incident, describing once again what happened, what should have been done to prevent it (if anything)

This is fiction: it does not matter to me if the situation is unrealistic – this is an English class…

EXTRA : Bonus, 2 marks – enjoy your grammar!

Training exercise: yes, you can improve your accent!

How about trying to repeat word for word what natives say? This will definitely help. Use the transcription tool to read as the person explains things all along… then it will be your turn to speak.
